Electrically conductive bonding in electronics

Nowadays, electrically conductive adhesives are widely used in microelectronics for the assembly and contacting of semiconductor chips, but also for the connection of sensors, actuators, motors or heating elements. Electrically conductive bonding has been a well-proven technique in microelectronics for many years and is promoted by a large number of new developments in adhesives and substrate materials, increasingly also available for higher performance classes. To ensure high structural strength along with high thermal and chemical resistance, these adhesives are preferably formulated based on epoxy systems. The connections made are both force-fit and electrically conductive and therefore offer an interesting alternative to soldering, welding and further mechanical connections. In contrast to conventional joining techniques, bonding using adhesives enables difficult material combinations and avoids undesirable effects such as deformation or discoloration, due to relatively low process temperatures. In addition, adhesively bonded connections are generally more flexible than soldered connections and thus better resist vibrations that may occur.

The electrically conductive adhesives of Polytec PT are based on epoxy resin systems, which are either available as two-component systems or as a one-component, premixed, frozen version. To ensure their optimum conductivity, we advise you to cure these products at temperatures of at least 100 °C. Should you have temperature-sensitive substrates, Polytec PT has specifically formulated products that can be cured at moderate temperatures or even at room temperature.

We offer you a wide range of electrically conductive adhesives suitable for all common application techniques. Starting with conductive silver adhesives for manual application in prototype or sample production up to materials for fully automated assembly processes with adhesive application by dispensing, screen printing, jetting or stamping.
